Varian 300 MHz NMR

The 300 MHz Varian has been upgraded to VNMRJ 4.2 software. This is the latest and last such upgrade available as Agilent has gone out of the NMR business. Many of the commands from the last software version still apply. There have been some changes however wrt loading the experiment type and solvent. When you open VnmrJ and go to 'lock' tab you should see a screen like below:

Load the solvent type from list by typing in command line:

• cdcl3
• c6d6
• acetone
• d2o
• dmso

Turn up the lock power and lock gain if you don't see step function above. Also, make sure lock box is checked and 'lock scan' is highlighted. Once the lock is found you can turn the lock power and gain down again. use LMB/RMB (Left Mouse Button etc).

Shim:

Now cl on the 'shim' button under the 'start' tab. This should bring up a screen like below with a wheel to maximize the shims on. Using LMB/RMB shim on Z1C and Z2C. If wheel goes above 100 bring back down using lock power/gain then continue to shim. when finished LMB 'acquire' tab

Load the experiment in command line:

• h1 - 1D proton
• f19 - 1D fluorine
• p31 - 1D phosphorous
• c13 - 1D carbon
• dept135 - dept135. for dept 90 set 'mult=1'; for dept 45 set 'mult=0.5'
• water - water suppression using 1-1 echo; no gradients however

Start data collection and process

• ga - autoset gain and acquire
• wft - weight, Fourier transform
• aph0 - autophase
• aph - use this if aph0 doesn't work above, else skip
• svf - save the data
